There will be some learning curve shock, but the performance you can obtain puts you in a different league. D90 users aren't making so large a step, but it's still a significant step. If you're comfortable with 12mp and ISO tops, stay with the D If you need to shoot in low light, need more pixels, or feel disadvantaged in autofocus, the D is a step up for the D90 user. I am not planning to upgrade from my D90 until at least the next generation. I got four years out of my D50, hope to do the same with the D The real question to the OP is whether you are happy with results from the D90? A couple of months ago, I borrowed a D90 and did a three-way comparison among the D90, D, and my D, but I only had the D90 for a weekend and my more extensive comparions were between the D and D In my opinion, if you have a Nikon D90 as I do, the D is not worth the update.
Yes, the camera has great new features, but, to me, they are not enough. I have used both cameras side by side and was not completely blown away. The image quality of the D90 was much better than the 60d and I found that I got more over the detail issue when I tweaked the settings in the menu.
I also preferred the build quality of the D90 which was far superior to the 60d. As for a replacement…well it depends on what will replace the D Thanks for the comment, AJ. Recounting experiences such as yours really helps others in their decision making process.
