As a consequence, a new SG-1 squad is formed. Vala Mal Doran Claudia Black also appears as a key character: she is a tremendously brilliant but ethically ambiguous human extraterrestrial who has a deep crush on Doctor Jackson.
So they launch a violent campaign into our universe, intending to convert everyone to their religion, Origin. Because they are technologically advanced, SG-1 must devise novel ways to fight them. Meanwhile, in Atlantis, the crew is attempting to create a retrovirus that would transform Wraith into humans.
Without giving anything away, the series finale wraps up some long-running narrative strands, including the fate of at least one fan-favorite pair and the struggle against a series of the major evil. After hundreds of episodes, Stargate SG-1 has come to an end — now dust off your hands and go over to Stargate Atlantis season 3, which you should watch concurrently.
In Stargate Atlantis, the crew successfully prevents the Wraith from attacking Earth, but they also fail to generate a retrovirus capable of transforming the Wraith into humans. Throughout the season, they face up against the Wraith as well as a new foe known as the Asurans, which are self-replicating nanobots. However, the spacecraft is wrecked shortly after this evasive maneuver, and our heroes are stranded in space. The Ark of Truth concludes the Ori plotline that was left hanging in the SG-1 series finale, effectively eradicating the enemy once and for all.
The film opens by detailing the existence of an ancient artifact known as the Ark of Truth, which has the ability to vanquish the Ori. Naturally, the crew is eager to locate it, but it is located on the Ori homeworld. Even though it is a death mission, they go to the planet and recover the gadget. However, in the process, they resuscitate an ancient foe — the replicators. The technology demonstrates to the Priors that the Ori are not gods.
The Priors are humans who serve the Ori and spread their religion, which includes invasion plans for Earth. The Ark of Truth has the effect of making all Priors in the galaxy aware of the truth, causing them to abandon their faith and the Ori entirely, and the film concludes with SG-1 preparing to travel through the Stargate on yet another mission, hinting that the tale will continue.
Our heroes are striving to rebuild the city of Atlantis, which is floating in space. They continue to combat their two main foes, the Wraith, and the Asurans, but in a brilliant ploy, they compel the two adversaries to attack each other. After the Atlantis crew reprograms the Asurans, they start attacking the Wraith, who appear to be decimated. Stargate: Continuum is another direct-to-video film that, while largely an independent plot, does fit chronologically between Seasons 4 and 5 of Atlantis.
Stargate: Continuum concludes the narrative of a particular individual from Stargate SG Fortunately, a few members of SG-1 recall the earlier chronology and successfully return history to its former state. This time, the characters are oblivious of the prior events of another timeline and proceed to murder him for good.
Fortunately, the program does an excellent job of closing up several plotlines. This is because some seasons of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis aired at the same time, so the events of some seasons do overlap. Where overlapping occurs, I have placed the seasons in the best viewing order possible. In addition to the above list, there are two Stargate anomalies which I need to draw your attention to. This movie does not appear on the above list as it is in essence a recut of the pilot episode of Stargate SG-1 , albeit with new visual effects and some additional scenes.
As for Stargate Infinity , this is an animated show set in the future long after the events of Stargate Universe. The show is not considered canon, is largely ignored by fans, and is for Stargate completists only. If you work your way through the Stargate timeline, and become a fan of the mythology especially the Stargate SG-1 mythology then you may wish to check out Stargate: Children of the Gods , which is available on DVD.
As noted above, this is a revised cut of the pilot episode of SG-1 and presents a slightly different take on the original material. Ark of Truth wraps up the Ori arc left dangling in the SG-1 series finale, effectively eliminating the enemy once and for all. The movie begins by explaining the existence of an ancient device known as the Ark of Truth, which can defeat the Ori. Naturally, the team is eager to find it, but unfortunately, it's on the Ori homeworld. Despite being a suicide mission, they visit the planet and retrieve the device. But in the process, they also resurrect an old enemy — the replicators.
The Ori gather their forces for a final assault on the Milky Way, but SG-1 activates the Ark of Truth, and it defeats the Ori, albeit in an unexpected way.
The device shows the Priors that the Ori are not gods. The Priors are humans who serve the Ori and promote their religion, which includes plans to invade Earth. The effect of the Ark of Truth is that all Priors in the galaxy become aware of the truth and thus leave their religion and the Ori altogether, and the film ends with SG-1 preparing to go through the Stargate on yet another mission, implying the story will go on.
Now that you've finished Ark of Truth , head back to Stargate Atlantis and watch season 4. At this time, there was a bit of a transition in the Stargate franchise.
Secondly, there was quite a shift in the casting. Main character Elizabeth Weir Torri Higginson became incapacitated in-universe, making room for Samantha Carter Amanda Tapping to become a main character. Carter crossed over from Stargate SG-1 , but after the show ended, she continued to appear in Atlantis.
The show's tone and direction also take a turn, but this one is a little more dark. The city of Atlantis is adrift in space, and our heroes are struggling to make repairs. They continue to fight their two primary enemies, the Wraith and the Asurans, but in a rather genius move, they force the two opponents to fight one another.
After the Atlantis team reprograms the Asurans, the Asurans begin fighting the Wraith, who are seemingly destroyed. At this point, you only have one more season of Stargate Atlantis to get through before you finally finish the show, but after season four, you have to take a detour and watch Stargate: Continuum. This is another direct-to-video film, and while it's essentially a standalone story, it does fit chronologically between seasons four and five of Atlantis.
Stargate: Continuum completes the story arc of a certain character that we know from Stargate SG Even though the evil Goa'uld are killed off in season 8 of Stargate SG-1, one survivor remained, named Ba'al. Ba'al continued to play a minor role in SG-1 seasons 9 and 10, occasionally joining forces with the Earthlings, but ultimately remains evil. However, this is a clone of Ba'al, and the real Ba'al has one last trick up his sleeve to gain universal power.
Ba'al time-travels to and prevents the Stargate program on Earth from ever happening. Doing so creates an alternate timeline where Ba'al conquers the universe and will soon assault Earth.
Fortunately, a few members of SG-1 remember the old timeline and successfully revert history back to the way things were originally. The movie ends with the first scene — Ba'al is about to be executed. This time, the characters are unaware of the previous events of an alternate timeline and go through with killing him, once and for all.
Once you're done with Continuum , it's time to head back to Stargate Atlantis one last time. You're going to watch the fifth and final season of the show. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Atlantis came on the air during the same time, which causes some debate among fans over the correct chronological order to watch the series see next section , while Universe is the most recent full-length Stargate series. The franchise did make a brief return in in the form of Stargate Origins, a web show comprised of minute instalments, which was later compiled into a feature-length version.
