Battle for Whiterun is a quest available in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in which the Dragonborn must assist the Stormcloaks with taking over control of the city of Whiterun and, by extension, Whiterun Hold.
This quest is only available if the Dragonborn joined the Stormcloaks. The benefit of joining the Stormcloaks is knowing you are rallying for a righteous cause, being on the proper side of history. After talking to Rikke, the quest Joining the Legion will start and, when finished, the Dragonborn will take an oath and be officially inducted into the Imperial Army. You dont need to choose a side at all.
You dont even need to start each sides quests. If youve never had spoken to tullius, you can outright say that the greybeards want to seen him. With ulfric, he'll direct you towards the guy who does recruitment but if you speak to him again, you can tell him about the greybeards.
Imperials are from Cyrodil and in an alliance with the Aldmeri dominion which is a group of high elves. Stormcloaks are a rebellion against the imperials and elves. You can have "Join the Stormcloaks" and "Join the Legion" both active at once, but once you join one you get an automatic quest failure for the other one.
I wanted to join the dragons. Skyrim doesn't have the same faction reputation system that the Fallout games have, so you can join the Stormcloaks and march into Solitude in full Stormcloak regalia with no consequences whatsoever.
If you are an Imperial but during the quest you decide that you want to become a stormcloak just hand in the crown to Ulfric and vice versa but hand the crown in to Tullius if you wish to become an imperial Be wary as this does not always work. Good Luck! What if you force both quests to start using console commands? Quote: What if you force both quests to start using console commands? User Info: FlyingDeCow. When the Black Knight tossed Ragnell to Greil, it was actually meant as an attack. Awakening is proof that the proper way to use Ragnell is to throw it.
